RoCM Playlist: 12 April 2025

So today’s show is the first show of the KCSB Spring 2025 programming quarter. While I do wish everyone a happy spring, every day forward in time seems to yield a new series of horrors so your mileage may vary.

This week is we have a pre-released track of an album coming out in May 2025 from the late Horace Tapscott and the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra, followed by a John Coltrane tribute band featuring the work of bassist Mike Watt of Minutemen fame. In the second hour, we do a tribute of sorts to members of the band the Irreversible Entanglements with tracks by Moor Mother, Tomas Fujiwara, and Keir Neuringer.

And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that April 9th was the 97th birthday of Mr. Tom Lehrer. If you are unaware, Tom Lehrer released his entire musical catalog into the public domain a few years ago – including all recordings, sheet music, etc.

Here is the playlist. Don’t forget that you can listen to the RoCM online at KCSB-FM’s website and there’s an online archive available for two weeks after the show airs.

So welcome to the first RoCM of the KCSB-FM Spring 2024 programming quarter. Hard to believe it’s almost 4 years since we first launched. Crazy. This week was a bit tight as I had some professional commitments that kept me pretty occupied, so it’s largely just a straight up “great jazz” program. Lots of William…

Kind of simple show this week – there was enough drama in the news that I thought some uplifting birthdays to celebrate would be a nice distraction. Everyone on the playlist, save for Tom Lehrer, Etta James, and Tom Waits, had a birthday this past week, but fun fact – Tom Lehrer celebrates his 95th…
