Preempted for UCSB Soccer RoCM Playlist: 29 Sept 2025

We were preempted this week for Cal Poly Mustangs vs. UCSB Gauchos soccer game. Unfortunately, I didn’t see the notification until far too late. Anyway… Go Gauchos!

Back with a new show this with music by Shamek Farrah, William Parker, and Anthony Braxton. We also have an outstanding track by Charles Tolliver‘s group Music, Inc, and a beautiful solo track by Bobby Few. The always stellar duo of Fred Anderson & Harrison Bankhead with a track from a live performance at the 2003 Vision Festival in New York City is well worth a listen.

And we violate our unofficial birthday rule by celebrating John Coltrane as his 99th birthday was the past Tuesday.

Here is the playlist. Don’t forget that you can listen to the RoCM online at KCSB-FM’s website and there’s an online archive available for two weeks after the show airs.

Kind of simple show this week – there was enough drama in the news that I thought some uplifting birthdays to celebrate would be a nice distraction. Everyone on the playlist, save for Tom Lehrer, Etta James, and Tom Waits, had a birthday this past week, but fun fact – Tom Lehrer celebrates his 95th…
