RoCM 5th Anniversary Playlist: 28 June 2025
So this week is the 5th anniversary of The Return of CoolMojo, as the show debuted on June 27th of 2020. Kind of hard to believe we are the air for 5 years this week, but time is a relentless demon and the alternatives aren’t much better so alas here we are. To “celebrate”, we’re going into the “classics” of free jazz and focusing on some tracks that are part of the foundational tunes that got me into this particular brand of jazz. We have some Alice and John Coltrane, Albert Ayler, Pharoah Sanders, Henry Grimes, Ornette Coleman, and the Art Ensemble of Chicago. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but the show is only two hours so it’ll have to do.
Not to wax sentimental, but if you’ve ever enjoyed the show, I greatly appreciate your ear time. The show is a labor of love so thanks for indulging me.
As of this posting, the Summer KCSB programming schedule has not been announced (which starts on Monday at 6am) – and while I assume I will still be on the KCSB airwaves on Saturdays at 4pm, it’s not official as of yet. I’m afraid that I don’t know why it’s delayed. When the official word comes in, I will post it here.
UPDATE: The schedule was sent out this afternoon and, as predicted, we are on for the Summer at the same jazz time and the same jazz channel.
Here is the playlist. Don’t forget that you can listen to the RoCM online at KCSB-FM’s website and there’s an online archive available for two weeks after the show airs.
