RIP Monté (2009-2023)

Our beautiful cat Monté passed away quite unexpectedly last Wednesday. I’ve been struggling to write a post about this special guy and this will undoubtedly be unsatisfactory – but I don’t know if I can put it off much longer.

We adopted Monté and his brother Jax – who were actually from the same litter – back in 2009 when we lived in Santa Barbara. I was expecting to be fond of them – but I was entirely unprepared for the amount they would work themselves into our hearts. They were a part of our family before Jennifer and I were married, before we moved to New York, before our son was born – really, before almost every major life event of the last 14 years.

Every cat stereotype – cats are moody, cats are withholding, cats are temperamental – could not be more untrue of our two feline family members. Monté was one of the sweetest cats I’ve ever had.

My day began and ended with Monté wanting to be near me. He was a lap cat to the extreme. To tie this to the radio show, almost every episode of RoCM to date was produced with one or both of these guys resting against me. The unconditional affection Monté showed us every day and the love we have for him is… well, our hearts are simply broken.

If you have a four legged companion, please give them a big hug and maybe try to send a positive thought for our beautiful guy. And to my Monté – always and forever, you beautiful boy. Always and forever.
