RIP Peter Brötzmann (1941 – 2023)

So sadly news is spreading that free jazz saxophonist Peter Brötzmann has passed away. I knew he was recently unwell – but like most, I was hoping that he was on the mend.

Hard to adequately sum up a career that spanned over 50 years with over 300 albums appearances to his name. My first real experience with his music was through the group Last Exit – but that ended up a sliver of his total output and I am still discovering more as a journey down the Brötzmann rabbit hole.
