RoCM Playlist: 05 April 2025
Happy April, everyone. Normally, I would pontificate about the year being a third over but lately time moving forward only seems to yield bad things.
Real quick, RoCM is on the air for the Spring 2025 programming quarter, at the end of which will be the 5th anniversary of the program. And to think I started this as something to pass the time during the pandemic.
Last week, we heard a track that featured the work of guitarist On Ka’a Davis – so this week. we listen to a track from an album in which he is the bandleader. We also hear a really interesting collaboration between Roscoe Mitchell and the late composer David Wessel, as well as a great track by Air. Joe McPhee, James Brandon Lewis, Ronnie Boykins, and the trio featuring Anthony Braxton, Evan Parker, and Paul Rutherford round things out. And just to keep in real, some Gil Scott-Heron to speak the truth in these bizzaro times.
