RoCM Playlist: 21 Sept 2024

According the KCSB staff, there was a power outage at Santa Barbara’s Broadcast Peak – where the KCSB-FM transmitter resides – and the power outage was long enough for the backup generator to run out of fuel. So if you’re in Santa Barbara, the online stream at kcsb.org or the show archive will be your best bet for listening to the show this week.

So this morning, I ran the local Great Cow Harbor 10k Marathon so I am a bit late getting this post up. While I am not a runner, I do occasionally run.

The show this week is a good one – we acknowledge the birthday of the late great Sunny Murray as well as some long pieces from Archie Shepp teaming up with Kahil El’Zabar (and friends) and a really amazing track from the super group known as The 360 Degree Music Experience – along side music from Abbey Lincoln, Amina Claudine Myers and Noah Howard. Lots of long tracks… but great music nonetheless.

Don’t forget that you can listen online at KCSB-FM’s website and there’s an online archive available for two weeks after the show airs.

We had our first significant snowfall this week here on Long island, with temperatures dipping into the low teens at various points. After 12 years of living in the northeast, I am still not used to this – but I don’t entirely hate it either. If nothing else, I have a greater appreciation for the…

So last week’s show was kind of a trainwreck – arguably the worst show I’ve produced since The Return of CoolMojo began – in addition to butchering the names of a few artists, I mistakenly played a track twice. The archive is up for another few hours if you want to relive the carnage. This…

The first program of the Fall 2024 KCSB programming schedule. We are taking a break from the birthday tributes to go back to normal jazz programming. Last week we did a tribute to Bill Dixon and this week we are featuring a track from an album he produced by the Marzette Watts Ensemble. Additionally, there…
