RoCM Playlist: 23 Aug 2025

This week, we sadly say goodbye to two jazz artists who we recently lost: Jesse Sharps of the the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra and legendary jazz vocalist Sheila Jordan.

We also have music by Walt Dickerson & Sun Ra, a great track from the Studio Rivbea series by Kalaparusha Maurice McIntyre, and we end the first hour with the track from the 1968 debut album by Muhal Richard Abrams.

In the second hour, we hear another debut album by Baikida E.J. Carroll released in 1974. We have a really cool track by Billy Bang’s Survival Ensemble recorded in 1978 at the studios of Columbia University’s eclectic WKCR in NYC (which is still broadcasting today). and we end the second hour with tracks by Marion Brown & Gunter Hampel followed by Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids.

Here is the playlist. Don’t forget that you can listen to the RoCM online at KCSB-FM’s website and there’s an online archive available for two weeks after the show airs.
