RoCM Playlist: 13 May 2023

So I was in Manhattan having lunch with a with a friend who was briefly in town and I stopped by a record store in the Lower East Side called Rotten Island Records – and I found a copy of the Black Unity Trio‘s ground-breaking album Al-Fatihah. Yes – it’s the recent re-issue, but still. This was the debut album for the late Abdul Wadud. It’s an amazing album – and I’ve had a digital copy for a while, but it’s very cool to finally experience it the old school way.

It’s kind of funny – the Lower East Side, with all of its punk rock and jazz history, is now a relatively upscale experience – but I guess that’s largely true of most of the former grungier parts NYC at this point.

Here’s the playlist for this week. Don’t forget that you can listen online at KCSB-FM’s website and there’s an online archive available for two weeks after the show airs.
